Yesterday 16 September 2019 the new president of the United Nations General Assembly, Professor Tijjani Mujammad Bande assumed office.
Tijjani was elected president of the UNGA on Tuesday, 4 June to serve a one year role.
His Alma Maters were Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria,University of Boston and University of Toronto.
Present at his swearing in were the delegation of Nigeria headed by Minister of Foreign Affairs, Geoffrey Onyeama, DG National Intelligence Agency, Ambassador Ahmad Rufai Abubakar, Senior Special Assistan Media and Pulicity to the president, Garba Shehu.
Others are former INEC Chairman, Professor Attahiru Jega, UN Secretary, Antonio Guterres, UN Deputy Secretary, Amina J. Muhammad and outgoing UNGA president, María Fernanda Espinosa.
Tijjani is from Kebbi state. He is the Permanent representative of Nigeria at the UN, he was the Vice Chancellor at the Usman Danfodio University Sokoto.
Before his election as the President of the UNGA, he was the Vice president UNGA 2016.
