The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) , has revealed via their Twitter handle that it has activated a second Molecular Laboratory in Kano State, to enhance detection and prevent further spread of the COVID-19 virus in the state.
“The 18th COVID-19 testing laboratory has been activated at Bayero University, Kano – the second laboratory to be activated in the state.
“We remain committed to rapidly scaling up COVID-19 testing capacity in Nigeria, as outlined in the national testing strategy.”
The center can perform up to 180 daily test of the virus which will assist the existing one at Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital (AKTH).
Prof. Isa Abubakar, the Director, Centre for Infectious Diseases and Research of the university, says the plan was already in motion before the first index case was registered in the state, that they will commence operations from 1 may, 2020 so as to curb the spread of the COVID-19 virus.
