Saudi Arabia’s finance minister on Monday said the kingdom will triple its Value Added Tax and halt monthly handout payments to citizens in new austerity measures amid record low oil prices and a coronavirus-led economic slump.     The measures, which could stir public resentment with the cost of living rising, come as the petro-state steps up emergency plans to slash government spending to deal with the twin economic blow.     “It has been decided the cost of living allowance will be halted from June 2020 and VAT will be raised from 5 percent to 15 percent from July 1,” Finance Minister Mohammed al-Jadaan said in a statement released by the official Saudi Press Agency.     Jadaan insisted the measures were necessary to shore up

Protesters marched in several cities across California on Friday demanding the easing of restrictions due to the coronavirus outbreak and denouncing Governor Gavin Newsom's decision to shut down some beaches.   The protests were taking place in at least 11 cities, including the capital Sacramento as well as San Francisco, Los Angeles and San Diego.     Some of the demonstrators waved American flags and carried signs that read "Freedom is Essential," "Trump 2020," or "Gruesome Newsom," while voicing anger at stay-at-home rules put in place to slow the spread of the virus.     Most of the protesters, many of them chanting "Open California" and "Freedom" or ringing cowbells, did not wear face coverings or follow social distancing guidelines

Jigawa State has recorded its first coronavirus-related death in Dutse Local Government Area of the state.     The state’s Commissioner for Health and Chairman, Task Force on COVID-19, Dr Abba Zakari, announced this while speaking to newsmen on Thursday in Dutse.     The two affected LGAs and other areas visited by patients were lockdown for seven days. Coronavirus/COVID-19 cases in Nigeria increases with additional 86 cases on Sunday,according to Nigerian Centre for Disease Control,NCDC data.   70 of the cases are from Lagos,  7 from Abuja, 3 from Katsina, e from Akwa-Ibom, 1 from Jigawa, 1 from Bauchi and 1 from Borno.   This brings the total recorded cases in Nigeria to 627, 170 were however discharged while 21 died. https://twitter.com/NCDCgov/status/1252009125007044619?s=19

Reports from Nigerian Centre for Disease Control revealed that 5 new Coronavirus/COVID-19 cases have been recorded in Nigeria,  Sunday 12, April 2020.   2 of the new cases are from Lagos,  2 fron Kwara and 1 from Katsina states.   Today there is no case of death from the virus, and total cases now is 323 with 15 more patients discharged,  total of 85.
